trumpeter, grew up in North Berwick Scotland, studied music teaching at Aberdeen University, 2000 moved to Glasgow, 2002 MM with John Maxwell Geddes and 2006 PhD in composition with Gordon McPherson from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow
