violinist, received his first violin lessons from his father, studied violin with Christiaan Poortman in Groningen, with Hans Sitt in Leipzig and 1893 with Eugene Ysaye in Brussel Belgium, studied composition with Constant Muller in Groningen and Carl Reinecke at Leipzig Conservatory, 1896-1898 concertmaster of the Hofoper in Darmstadt Germany, 1899-1904 second concertmaster of the Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam, 1904-1911 concertmaster in London and professor of violin at the Royal Academy of Music in London, 1911-1940 first concertmaster of the Concertgebouworkest in Amsterdam, 19.jul.1933 on his 60th birthday he was made officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau ; son of violinist of the Gronings orkest Heinrich Christian Ludwig Zimmermann (Germany 1836-) and Maria Catharina Dassel ; he married Maria M Chitz ; son economist Dr. Louis Jacques Zimmerman (Amsterdam 27.feb.1913-28.apr.1998 Den Haag)
